Islamabad—Logo of 3rdAsian Kabaddi Championship 2016 Circle Style (2016) was launched in a press briefing held at Islamabad Hotel Islamabad. Trophy of this championship was also unveiled on this occasion. Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) on Monday said it is hopeful that Pakistan would repeat their heroics to emerge victorious once again in the Asian Kabaddi Championship (circle style) scheduled to be held from May 2 to 6 in Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah Cantt.
Addressing a press conference here at a local hotel on Monday, PKF secretary Rana Mohammad Sarwar said the Kabaddi Championship will be telecasted on PTV Sports.
“Besides Pakistan, teams from India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Iran would vie for the trophy in the third edition of the championship,” he said.
It may be mentioned that Pakistan are the defending champions of the quadrilateral continental event last time defeating archrivals India in Lahore in 2012. The championship was earlier scheduled to take place from April 27 to May 1 but now it will be held from May 2 to 6.
The event was rescheduled in order to telecast it live on PTV Sports after the ongoing Pakistan Cup one-day tournament underway at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad. Sarwar hoped that the national team who is also the defending champion would put up a good show in the event. “Our athletes are undergoing intensive training and are in a good shape and eager to win,” he said.
The PKF secretary said he was hopeful the championship would attract a huge crowd as Kabaddi was one of the popular games in Punjab.
The championship was being held in collaboration with the POF Wah, he further said.
